Abstract

Stainless steel hollow fingers, with hemispherical lower ends, are immersed in the liq. metal as measurement probes whilst a similar finger acting as reference probe is immersed in an isothermal zone within that liq. metal, the measuring instruments being switched selectively between the reference probe and one of the measurement probes. The lead-out wires from the probes, also of stainless steel are welded at the inner extremity of the fingers only and pass up the axes of the tubular walls without any other electric contact. Very low thermal inertia and electrical delay ensure very rapid response.
