Abstract

The propionic acid is intended for the preservation of moist stored grains or aq. cattle foods. Although the results of the treatment are excellent, difficulties arise because of the rapid corrosion caused to the appts. The new plant comprises a high press. pump. The suction side of the latter is fitted with a foot valve and filter in the reservoir contg. the liq. prod. to be sprayed. The delivery pipe from the pump is connected, via a flowmeter, to spraying nozzles mounted on movable supports. The amount of liq. delivered is indicated by the float of the flowmeter. In conjunction with a light source and a photoelectric cell it gives a warning when the flow is outside the permitted limits. The pump has a by-pass valve which can be adjusted to keep the float at the desired level so that the nozzles deliver the desired quantity of liq.
