Abstract

In the loom, the shuttle is advanced by contact with toothed discs carried on a violating shaft, and an extra disc is provided on one end of the shaft so that as the shaft rotates, a tooth on the disc engages the weft and carries it between pref. a pair of parallel plates, at the side of the warp, so that the end of the weft is trapped between the tooth and the outer plate. Pref. the plates have aligned apertures through which the shuttle passes and pref. one of the apertures is formed with a knife edge which co-operates with the tooth on the disc to cut the weft as the tooth traverses the aperture. The clamping device is simple and does not require auxiliary controls.
