Abstract

Mineral and organogenic soils are treated with polyurethanes in the form of aqs. dispersions or solns. to improve the condition of the soil and influence plant growth. An aqs. dispersion of a polyurethane isomer, esp. a polyammonium polyurethane polyphosphate or polynitrate or the K salt of a polyurethane polyacid, is pref. used, the former pref. contg. free amino groups and the latter free acid groups to provide a buffering action. The polyurethane compsns. pref. also contain growth regulators, herbicides, and pesticides, e.g. fungicides, nematocides, bactericides, insecticides and rodenticides. The compsns. improve the structure of the soil, give a depot fertilising effect, and can act as liquid mulches.
