Abstract

Apparatus for separating solids from liquids comprising a conduit defining an upward flow pat of increasing cross-section. The conduit encloses a number of inverted frusto-conical spaced apart settling plates which extend outwardly from the center in a step down fashion and provide a relatively constant increasing vertical distance from the upper edge of each settling plate. The spaced apart plates defining a flow path of increasing cross-sectional area and providing impingement surfaces for the accumulation and downward flow of nonsoluble material. The cross sectional area of the flow paths are equal at their inlets and liquid enters the bottom of the conduit and leaves at the top.
