Abstract

Shaped composite articles are produced by (a) forming and kneading a mixt of a thermoplast, 30-80% wt inorg. filler and 1-2% wt blowing agent, (b) foaming the mixt. to a three dimensional body, and (c) further shaping the body by an external pressure. Specif. the thermoplast is polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC or an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer. The inorg filler is gypsum, calcium sulphite, calcium carbonate or carbon black. The foam material has a bulk density of 0.6 pref. 0.1-0.2. The original volume of the foam material is reduced by 30-90% vol. by compression. Used as buffer material e.g. in car upholstery or packaging and also as synthetic leather.
