Abstract
In a device for treating wood chips or fibres, pref. cellulosic, with adhesive in a cylindrical mixing chamber, the material to be mixed being subjected to the action of rotating blades mounted on a central shaft, the adhesive is supplied through the central shaft, passes through the rotating blades and enters the mixing chamber near the periphery. The entry of the adhesive at the periphery exerts a cooling effect on the mass and prevents local overheating without the use of separate cooling arrangements. The openings for the adhesive at the end of the mixing arms are pref. directed radially outwards and opposite to the direction of rotation. The arms themselves may be screwed into the shaft, and pref. have a narrow leading edge fanning out to a wider tail whose maximum width is less thena the length. A prefd. method is to add a small portion of the adhesive in liquid form and the balance in solid form at the periphery of the chamber.
