Abstract

Moulding material comprising a cord of continuous fibres impregnated with a resin and stored as windings on a reel or bobbin to be used as feedstock for continuous prodn. of GRP. Pref. the fibres are glass impregnated with a polyester or an epoxy resin system. Esp. suitable for direct feeding into a screw injection moulding machine. The cord fibres may be of other mineral or of synthetic or vegetable origin. The impregnating resin may incorporate chopped fibres, fillers, pigments, curing agents, etc. pref. with 20 - 40% total glass content. The feed rate is readily adjusted by the number of strands used at once. Approx. 30 kg cpd. can be stored as 250 - 350 m core 0.3 - 1.0 cm. dia. on a bobbin 30 cm. long and 10 cm. dia.
