Abstract

The aq. waste is treated by (a) sterilising the waste solids in the soln. by contacting, under alkaline conditions, with a water-soluble monomer subject to polymsn. or condensn. and (b) condensing a methylol-contg. cpd. to form a condensn. product or polymer contg. methylene bridges. Method is economic, sterilises completely and converts waste to a manageable form. It is used for human and animal digestive waste, industrial waste e.g. from paper-making, cotton, meat-treatment etc. and for fish-meal. Undigested waste may be converted into animal fodder.
