Abstract

A process for the treatment of sludges from domestic and industrial effluents is described. The process comprises measurement of the pH of the sludge, its treatment with a coagulant in an amount producing a reduction of the pH of the sludge to 2.5 to 5.0, a thickening of the sludge, its conditioning and subsequent dewatering. The process can be applied in the treatment of sludges from municipal domestic effluents, and effluents from cellulose plants and paper plants, dairies, meat plants and industrial-scale animal production units.
