Abstract

Pharmaceutical compsns. contain as essential active component a strain of a 'micropredator' microbe (I) capable of destroying other microbes by its direct action on them. (I) is pref. of the genus Bdellovibrio, specifically B.bacteriovorus CBS 648.73 or 649.73 or its natural or artificial mutants. Used to treat infections and, non-medically, as additives for animal feeds; for treating sewage effluent; purifying water; cleaning soiled linen, Treating soils, walls or hospital waste. Compsns. can be given orally, topically, parenterally etc. depending on the site of infection.
