Abstract

Inner ball race rings are cut from a length of tube and formed in a pressing operation on a single machine. A crank shaft drives two horizontally opposed dies through a connecting rod and toggle mechanism at half the speed of a device for shearing the correct length of tube, with a mandrel inside it, and lowering it into the pressing position. The same drive is used with different gear ratios for all parts of the machine including tube feed, mandrel removal, and return to cutting station. In previous machines very accurate cutting was required to allow precise centering in the press tools.
