Abstract

Compsn. for producing a magnetisable layer contg. powdered magnetisable metal oxide(s) and organic resin(s), esp. for magnetic information carriers, contains water. The compsn. is suitable for magnetic tapes, drums, discs etc. used in video-recorders, tape recorders and similar information storage equipment. It gives considerably higher wear resistance, without loss of other desirable props. including excellent magnetic remanence. The water content is 0.5-10 g/100 g metal oxide. The water is (partly present in chemicall bound form as a hydrate or >=1 metal oxide, esp. Fe2O3 and is removed by heating the coating to >=120 degrees C after evapn. of the solvent.
