Abstract
Treatment is of considerable benefit to Fe-deficient soils (preventing chlorosis in plants) and uses a finely divided Fe material, applied at 1-17400 pref. 10-100 Kg/hectane, prepd. by method in which cast Fe chips (esp. residues from cast iron processing or machining operations) are heated to 700-1200 degrees F. Hot chips are then quenched with H2O so that temp. pref. falls to 140-250 degrees F. Pref. residual dry chips passing a 10 mesh screen are then classified (+10 mesh material is ground and recycled). Material passing 100 mesh screen is collected, and contains 50-90% wt. total equiv. Fe2O3 (incl. Fe) and 50% wt. Fe. Steam from the quenching step contains fines, which are washed with H2O, contg. 25% wt. Fe, and 25-75% wt. total equiv. Fe2PO3.
