Abstract

Refractory lining of a revolving or stationary cylindrical furnace drum is composed of a set of partly overlapped, refractory plates each secured with a single point fastening on the outside of the drum. Since each plate is individually renewable local repairs are possible without skilled tradesmen and with no need for a complete reline. The plate overlap allows for relative movement, expansion and contraction. The plates may be held clear of the drum by spacing collars and the gap packed with thermal insulation.
