Abstract

Morotised peeling machine may be used for rapidly peeling large numbers of water melons with very little manual labour. The melon is supported between a driving centre and a free-running centre to be rotated while peeling cutters are pressed against the skin which is peeled away in the manner of swarf turnings on a centre lathe. As with a lathe, the driving centre is on a shaft which runs in a fixed headstock bearing and the free-running centre is in a tailstock adjustable in its spacing from the other centre to allow for melons of various lengths.
