Wood veneer is produced by dividing a trunk longitudinally into halves, quarters or sectors, rounding off the partial trunk to a diameter d<SP>11</SP> and then dividing off the veneer by a concentric circular peeling operation. In rounding off, the centre portion 9 of the trunk containing defects 8 may, as shown, be removed. The veneer may be mounted on a backing of paper or other material.
