Abstract

Fabrication of synthetic carpeting which must fit surfaces of varying contours by thermoforming a smooth layer of thermoplastic sheet against a microporous mould mounted in a holder for vacuum forming. Pref. the mould carriages has a cover for pressure assisted vacuum forming. Esp. claimed for mfre. of floor covers for automobile bodies. Use of a microporous mould allows complete covers to be made in one piece with good surface detail throughout. Reduces cost of producting a wide variety patterns by only requiring a single mould surface for each (in contrast to matched mould compression moulding).
