Phosphoric acid is produced by H2SO4 treatment of a mixt. of natural phosphates from different areas. The gypsum by-product crystallises three-dimensionally, rather than as platelets and so filtration and sepn. are made easier. In this way increased prodn. is obtd. In an example. a plant produced 100 tons/day of phosphoric acid (as P2O5) from Israel phosphate, and 160 tons/day from Florida phpsphate. By using 35% Israel and 65% Florida, phosphates the daily yield was 190 tons.
