Abstract

A loom (e.g. for weaving tapes) having preF. a Jacquard mechanism, includes a drive for the control lever of a shuttle positioning device comprising a low power electromagnet which is controlled by the Jacquard mechanism to actuate a linkage to transmit movement of continuously oscillating platform to the control lever. The platform is continuously raised and lowered by a cam driven from the main shaft of the loom and operating against a return spring. Pref. the armature of the electromagnet is connected to two push rods which are pivotally connected to opposite ends of a centrally pivoted lever and the lever is connected via a linkage to the control lever. Movement of the armature brings one or other of the push rods into the path of the platform which then acts on the push rod to pivot the centrally pivoted lever and actuate the control lever. The low power electromagnet has a fast response time and low remanence thereby reducing any tendency to stick.
