Abstract

Explosive compsn based on nitroglyceroglycol (NG) in the form of a castable paste, contain essentially (a) a thickener for NG, (b) at least one passivating substance having a solvent affinity for NG, and with low volatility and high O content, good stability and neutral to the other constituents, (c) at least one thickening agent and (d) at least one combustible body, such as NaNO3 or NH4OH, the thickener being present as 1 pt, 5-20 pts of NG, and the combustible body being in sufficient quantity to compensate for the excess combustible matter contributed by the solvent. The NG is present as 25-60% of the compsn (a) is pref. an org ester such as phthalic ester (b) is pref a glycol (c) is pref. a macromolecular ester type. The compsn also contains a combustible cpd which is very exothermic when burning such as Al.
