Abstract
Benzaldehyde (I) is prepd. continuously by reacting toluene and O2 in molar ratio 0.1-2 : 1, at 200-600 degrees C and residence time 0.05-40 secs., in presence of an O2-contg. catalyst which contains Mo and as additional element is not 1 of Fe, Ni, Co, Sb, Bi, V, P, Sm, Ta, Sn, Cr, with an atomic ratio of additional element : Mo of 1:1. (I) is obtd. in higher yield, higher space-time yield and greater purity.
