Abstract

Reinforced concrete guide slab is lowered to the sea bed and a ballast member composed of compartmented tanks is used to guide it, anchor and it prevent displacement. Guide ropes secured to the guid slab pass through the ballast member and the guide is connected to the drilling platform and has notched rim to accept pins used to locate the ballast member. The feet of the platform legs fit on to the guide slab once this is in position. The slab is perforated to allow sea bed material to work up through it and key it firmly. The ballast tanks are supplied and drained through a pump system on the platform, and this also accommodates winch facilities for drawing up the slab and guides etc.
