Abstract

Process for continuous casting in which liquid metal (I) in an intermediate enclosure (II) is admitted into an ingot mould (III) cavity via a casting nozzle (IV) and a pressurised inert gas (V) is supplied to the surface of (I) in (III). Pref. (V) is supplied at a pressure that of a column of (I) above the (I) in a fluid tight (III) and (V) is exhausted through the channel in (IV) towards (II).
