Abstract

Process for obtaining building materials comprises mixing a filler with a binder, pref. lime, and with water and then firing in an autoclave using steam above atmos. press. and at temp. >100 degrees C. Insoluble carbonates esp. Ba carbonate are added to the mixt. before firing in excess quantities than stoichiometrically necessary to ensure that all soluble sulphates are converted to insoluble sulphates. Impurities present in the mixture are made insoluble in water by an economic process thus the material is no longer subject to erosion by water in the atmos. and so it retains its strength, appearance and insulating props.
