Abstract

Hollow metal bearings for rotating shafts or reciprocating pistons where the metal housing is lined with a plastic sleeve moulded, in situ or prefabricated, directly to working size to suit the running component. Pref. the lining is made of PTFE or of a polyamide, pref. injection or flow moulded. Avoids precise internal machining of the metal component. Offers a relatively self-lubricating solvent and corrosion resistant working surface, for conveying or pumping e.g. chemicals or foodstuffs, coupled with the hoop strength of the outer metal shell.
