Abstract

Highly efficient separation of dry steam from a mixt of steam and water vapour is effected in a separating cyclone of the type having axially extending or helical blades, to set the incoming mixt into a rotary swirling motion, and a steam outlet riser; essentially the blades are set so that the kinetic moment of the mixt stays substantially constant as it passes through the separator. The hydrodynamic requirement for this condition is largely satisfied by making the axial length of each, gently curving blade greater on its outer radius than on its inner radius.
