Abstract

Process consists in treating the liquor contg. S and olefins with acid in the presence of liquid hydrocarbons and stripping the resulting stream of S by passing a gas stream. Appts. comprises a cylindrical container with a neutralization zone (I) and a stripping zone (II). In (I) the liquor contg. S is fed continuously along with kerosine or gas oil. Acid e. g. sulphuric flow is controlled to give a pH range 5-7. From (I) the liquor flows to zone (II) where through a baffle arrangement with many passes, it flows counter-current to a gas stream. The S content can be varied to a very low level, and the liquor can be directly used for chemical and biological water purificn. installations.
