Abstract

Filter for separation and collection of dust suspended in gas comprises several discrete filter elements, pref. of porous membrane, e.g. cloth formed in pockets over wire cages separating lower chambers, in which dust is collected and falls onto a moving belt for eventual removal by a screw conveyor, from upper chambers out of which purified gas is drawn through a manifold by an extractor fan. A trolley, moved on rails by a belt at top of appts. operates trip levers in sequence, closing valves to outlet manifold and opening valves communicating with a duct conveying compressed air from extractor, when a butterfly valve actuated in co-ordination with trolley movement is positioned appropriately. The resulting reversed flow detaches dust from the filter element, without causing mechanical abrasion, producing electrostatic charges, or interrupting filtration through the other elements.
