Abstract

Heat exchanger in which liq is passed through a bank of parallel tubes while a gas is circulated between the tubes to transfer heat between the liq and the gas. Each tube is fitted with many vanes at right angles to the tube axis, the vanes usually being either square or rectangular; essentially, each vane is now made with those edges which are parallel to the direction of gas flow formed to an irregular line, pref. with notches cut out. This simple modification greatly improves the rate of heat transfer without greatly increasing mfg costs.
