Abstract

Process comprises continuously charging benzyl chloride and an aqueous alkaline solution to a hydrolysis zone at a rate adjusted to provide turbulent flow effecting the hydrolysis of the benzyl chloride to form benzyl alcohol at elevated temp. and pressure within the hydrolysis zone, continuously withdrawing the effluent from the hydrolysis zone and recovering the benzyl alcohol.
