Abstract

Pigment, as a composn. contg. pigment and >20 (30-50) % polyolefin resin with softening point 185 degrees C, is added as colouring material to hot-coating compsns. for paving roads, side-walks, sports grounds, parking places, obtd by mixing sand, opt. fine gravel, distilled bitumen opt. fillers and/or additives to modify viscosity and m.pt. of coating composn. The polyolefin is pref. polypropylene, esp. atactic polypropylene, of M.W. 20000-70000 and 500-30000 cp viscosity. Pigment composn. may contain a filler and/or additive to lower viscosity and/or m. pt. (e.g. waxes, resins, solvents). Pollution by flying coloured dust and formation of non-dispersible bitumen-wrapped lumps are prevented; better dispersions leads to better colour intensity; wetting and cohesion before and after ageing are improved.
