Abstract

In the parent patent a rotational casting mould was composed of thin-wall metal (Al) shell partly surrounded by metal loops which act as induction heating electrodes. Pref. the loops comprised hollow tubes which could be chilled by internal circulation of a gaseous or liquid fluid. Here the tubular heaters are modified by being provided with radial perforations in the direction of the adjacent mould walls so that the coolant can also directly assist chilling of the mould walls. Pref. zones of the mould which absorb most energy, the end caps, are covered with plates of a material (Cu) having a better thermal conductivity than the mould walls to better equalise the temp. distribution.
