Abstract

A heat-exchanger, esp. for vaporisation of liquefied gas tube-side by e.g. steam shell-side, has a cylindrical shell traversed in the direction of its axis by pref. cylindrical distribution and collection heads, connected by tubes in flat spirals (in radial planes of the shell). Preferred is a pipe spiralling out from distributor to join an inward spiral in a plane displaced axially, adjacent pipes spiralling in opposite senses and with staggered radial pitch. Pipes are supported at only one point, so that differential temp. expansion stress is minimised without resort to expensive metals.
