Abstract

The cutter blade of device of parent ptent for automatically trimming crude hollow plastic mouldings is modified to present a full or partial belve on its leading edge as well as on its trailing edge. Pref. the crest of the double bevel is rounded. Esp. for trimming the tops of blow moulded bottles spinning past a stationary cutter blade. The double bevelled knife gives a better cut and higher cutting rates, and allows components to be cut at higher temps. before the knife causes local distortion. Shorter, thus stiffer, blades may be used. Rounding of the crest of the bevels results in reduced knife wear rates.
