Abstract
The affinity of fibres from polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile for dyes is reduced by treating the fibres in an aqs. bath or printing with aq. pastes contg. polyethers with basic N atoms or their quaternization products obtd. by condensing N-2-hydroxyalkylamines (I) of formula: HO-CH(R)CH2-N(R)CH2-CH(R2)OM (where R1 and R2 are H or alkyl contg. 1-4C; R is alkyl, 1-15C, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, or the hydroxyalkyl gps. -CH2-CH-OH or -CH2-CH-OH, but the proportion in which R is an hydroxyalkyl is not >20%). I may be condensed with polyols of formula A-(OH)n (in which A is an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, araliphatic or aromatic polyol radical; and n is 2-4). The fibres, removed from the bath or after printing, are given a heat treatment. The bath temp. is between 90 degrees -100 degrees C for 15-90 mins. at pH pref. 7-11.
