Abstract

Die is made from several layers of superimposed, semi-rigid material, such as a rubberised or synthetic prodt. These layers are fixed to each other by means of an adhesive to form the die. Cut-outs are made in the upper layer which will come directly into contact with the leather and have the shape of the designs to be impressed on the leather. The intermediate layer also has certain cut-outs which correspond with cut-outs in the top layer; these are to form portions of the design which will be in considerable relief. The cut-outs which are only in the upper layer will form the lower reliefs. The stamping operation is effected after the fibres of the leather have been moistened with water; a definite press. is exerted in a press for several secs., the leather being placed beneath the die and over several layers of pliable material. The leather impressed with the relief designs is then dried.
