Abstract

Separation of first and second metals which are soluble in an org. liquid, is effected by (a) forming a soln. of the metals in the org. liquid, (b) preferentially reducing the dissolved first metal to an insoluble form, the second metal remaining dissolved, and (c) separating the insoluble fraction from the soln. Used e.g. for separating Cd from Fe, or Co, Ni, Cu or Ag from Zn. Highly efficient separation is effected to give pure metals e.g. Cu free of Zn.
