Compsn. for treating crude oil comprises >=1 (polymeric) surfactant (I), to reduce corrosion of equipment and to inhibit deposit formation, and >=1 alcohol, phenol, or amide (II) to inhibit formation of oil-water gels or emulsions. (II) may be 1-5C alkanol; HO(CH2CH2O)nCH2CH2OH (n is O-100); HO(CH(CH3)CH2O)mCH(CH3)CH2OH (m is 0-5); HOCH2CH2NR2R3 (R2 and R3 are each H, CH3, C2H5 or H(OCH2CH2)p, p is 1-5); phenol, cresol or xylenol; urea, formatimide, DMF or acetamide.
