Abstract

Appts. comprises an air and/or oxygen inlet system, an inspiratory pipe system, an expiratory pipe system and an element simulating the lungs, such as an expansible bag. The inlet system is connected to a device producing a bactericidal gas or vapour and the respirator is operated during the time necessary for its disinfection. Cross-infection inside a hospital can be avoided by the appts. which allows the respirators to be disinfected each time after use, the same cycle is followed by using an artificial lung. A bactericidal substance, such as formaldehyde, ozone, ethylene oxide, ethylene glycol etc. is produced in a gas-prodn. device and sent into the body of the respirator and then into the expansible bag, which it expands during the inspiratory phase. During expiration this same substance is sent back into the respirator and then to a discharge pipe which opens into a device for absorbing or destroying the substance. After disinfection, the respirator is rinsed with air and/or oxygen.
