Abstract
A waveguide cable incorporating a core made of a material with a low dielectric loss surrounded successively by a tubular conductor, a layer of insulation, a metallic screen and a conventional sheath. Pref. the core insulation is machined to ensure a constant external diameter for supporting the conductor. The conductor is insulated pref. with a polyethylene/acrylic acid graft copolymer or with a thin sheath of polyurethane covered with a high dielectric film, and pref. stuck onto the surface of the core. The solid core reinforces the hollow conductor against crushing or kinking by hydrostatic pressures, trenching tools, etc. while still allowing signal repeater stations to operate at greater spacing/lower voltages than requried by core conductor cables.
