Abstract

Successive samples of gas are taken from a nuclear reactor and the radioactive ions from each sample are fixed on a band of a multi-band collector; the band is checked for beta- radiation and, depending upon the value of this beta measurement, the detector automatically proceeds either to repeat the gas sampling and beta radiation check, or to switch to one of a different set of recording bands and to take sample(s) of gas to be checked for & radiation energy. The detector will discriminate automatically between old, slow leakages and fresh leaks from recent ruptures of the reactor casing.
