Abstract

Cold water resistant polyvinyl alcohol is prepd. from a polyvinyl alcohol of K value >=50 and degree of saponification 80-99% by a final saponification at high temp. (80-100 degrees C) using aq. alkali(ne-earth) metal hydroxide soln. The products are used in soil consolidated and seed protection. Solns. of up to 15% concentration may be obtained, which are stable at room temp. Solid polymer is insoluble in cold water but soluble in hot.
