Abstract

The polymeriser is a cylindrical conical or frusto conical shape and has an internal wall which holds the reacting layer by means of a rotor moving at a speed such that ratio of linear speed/layer thickness >102 sec-1 (pref 103-106 sec-1). The layer is 4cm thick. Catalyst is an alkali metal (Na) or butyl lithium as 100-10 ppm. (pref. 100-1, 500ppm) of monomer. Reaction temp is 100-250 degrees C for 15 sec-1 min at 2-5 atm. The product has high mol wt. and the reaction is more efficient because of the absence of solvent.
