Abstract

Process uses na electric dialysis cell contg. continuous series of unit cells having (a) a cation exchange membrane to separate an aqs. soln. of hydrohalic acid from a free amino acid in aqs. soln.; (b) an anion exchange membrane separates this from the aqs. soln. of volatile base; (c) a cation exchange membrane to separate this from an aqs. soln. of halide derived from the volatile base, followed by an anion exchange membrane, in order from anode to cathode. A hydrohalic acid salt of amino acid is subjected to an electric dialysis by introducing the hydrohalic acid salt as an aqs. soln. and taking out a free aminoacid. Pref. hydrohalic acid salts include hydroiodic acid, hydrobromic acid and hydrochloric acid salt. Suitable amino acid is lysine. Volatile bases other than ammonia are monomethyl amine, dimethyl amine and trimethyl amine.
