Abstract

Reactor uses two stages of neutron shielding to prevent activation of secondary liquid in the heat exchangers without inconveniently increasing the vessel dimensions. The principal vessel contains reactor core surrounded by first annular shield, refrigerant circulation pump(s) and heat excahnger(s) with second shield sheathing their walls and bases. The core is contained in a primary vessel with annular shield lining and pumps and shielded heat exchangers placed around it. Radial arms from the primary vessel direct hot refrigerant into the heat exchangers and cold refrigerant leaving them is pumped back into the base of the primary vessel.
