Abstract
Carbon black is produced by (a) burning a combustible fluid in the presence of an oxidising gas contg. at least 50% vol. molecular oxygen at a gauge pressure above 0.07 kg/cm2, and withdrawing continuously the combustion gas at the downstream end of the zone, (b) injecting a vapourised or atomised combustible carbon-contg. feed into the periphery of the stream of combustion gas at a rate sufficient to provide a reaction mixt. temp. of at least 1315 degrees C, under conditions permitting the formation of carbon black, (c) maintaining the reaction product under conditions giving particles of carbon black to a temp. below that giving carbon black, and (e) isolating the carbon black particles.
