Abstract

An offshore well rig has a working platform supported by columns rising from a submerged pontoon of polygonal, such as triangular, outline anchored by cables extending down in slightly diverging manner to anchor blocks arranged in a pattern corresponding with the pontoon outline. Cyclic stressing of the cables is minimised and failure of one cable does not necessarily capsize the rig since the freed corner of the pontoon surfaces prior to capsize.
