Abstract

Polyurethanes with good mechanical properties made by reacting di- or polyisocyanates with a block polyester/polylactone/polyol of mol.wt. 300-20000 obtained by reacting a polyester/polyol or polycarbonate diols of formula A(OH)x with lactones of formula: (R1 is H or a 1-4C alkyl R2 and R3 are H or 1-4C alkyl 6-12C alicyclic, 1-4C alkoxy or 6-12 aryl residues) at 50-300 degrees C under N2, this being the only route to obtain these cpds. of formula: (where A is an x-valent residue obtained by removal of OH groups from polyesters (made by reaction of di- or polycarboxylic acids with an excess of di- or polyols) or a polycarbonate diol n is 2-6, m is 1-60 and x any number 2-6). Reaction rate of polyesters or carbonates with lactone are fast enough without catalyst.
