Abstract

Organic cpds. contg. at least one H atom attached to a satd. C atom, that is replaceable under free-radical conditions are treated with a cpd. X-S-P(Z)(OR)-OR1, with free-radical catalysis at 0-150 degrees C, (X = halogen, Z = O or S and R and R1 are organic radicals). The product has the displaceable H atoms replaced by -S-P(Z)(OR)-OR1. The products, when of low molecular weight, are useful as insecticides and as additives for lubricants (anti-oxidants, anti-corrosives, sludge-dispersants, high-pressure agents, etc.). They are also useful s chemical intermediates. When polymers are thiophosphorylated, the products are receptive to dyes or to other monomer additives such as antioxidants or fire-proofing agents.
